Chestertown, Maryland
Washington College is located just barely north of Chestertown, MD, a scenic small town on the Chester
River. In Chestertown you can find places just to hang out, grab a bite to eat, or just relax. The entire
town seems to be founded on the commitment to community and this impresses me a greal deal. Also, it seems like everything
is going so slow and is much different than our more fast-paced lives.

Sports
Since the College is so close to the Chester River, water sports are very important
to the school and also makes the College very unique. It offers many water sports including rowing and crew, and the
college even offers a waterskiing club. The College is also more popular for its smaller sports like lacrosse and rugby,
even though they do offer the usual programs of baseball, football, and basketball.

Bridge
This is the bridge that you would cross if you are approaching Chestertown from MD 213 from the south
(going north). It's one of those (to be completed later) drawbridges so if you ever get a red light on it, it means
that a ship is comin' through. Apparently many people jump off of this bridge regularly and some have actually died
jumping off it.

Fireworks
Here is a picture of a firework (is that even a word???) above the Casey Acedemic Center at
Washington College. I believe it is a firework, but it may be a giant colored porcupine or maybe a multi-colored plastic
thing that I don't know the name of...

Casey Acedemic Center
Well here is the beautiful Casey Acedemic Center, which contains the Washington College Bookstore.
This is pretty much where most of your orientation and student activities seem to be when you first come here. It is
very elequent and gorgeous inside and a site that prospective students and freshman get to see a great deal of.

Daly Hall
This is the hall where I have two courses: American History to 1865(1877?) and
Information and Communication in America. The hall looks rather new or newly renovated, but its rather strange because
the rooms have no clocks!

Diversity
This campus is so very diverse in many ways. The students are from many
different countries including Saudi Arabia, China, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, among many others. Every person is
different, whether it be of race, religion, style, or lifestyle. This is something that many of us have never
been confronted with and it's an excellent opportunity for me to learn about the vast cultures that incompass the world.

Sunsets and Locusts
If anyone goes without seeing a Washington College sunset or hearing the locusts,
they are really missing out. Here is yet another picture of the Casey Acedemic Center, but this time angled to see the
spectacular sunset. I will have more pictures (of my own) about the beautiful scenery around the college at a later
time.

Martha Washington Square
This is a picture of Martha Washington Square, which is adjacent to the Casey Acedemic Center.
Again, freshmen will get acquianted with this area during orientation and other activities occur here throughout the year.

George Washington
This place, of all places in the world, is obsessed with George Washington. Sure, he was a great
leader during the [American] Revolution and afterwards when he donated a substantial sum of his own personal money to start
the College. I mean there aren't any statues of Jesus or anything, so is George Washington God? Should I be worshiping
the statue or something? Crying by it for comfort? Crying his name loudly to the heavens? I believe that
I have just taken this out of proportion, so I will now stop shouting "George" to the heavens in my dorm room hugging
a pillow.

Another Sunset Picture
I sincerely apologize for having yet another sunset picture, but I can't get enough of them. This
place is very picturesque and just downright relaxing. Ever feel stressed? Just walk outside for a few minutes,
take a deep breath, and go back to working. This place is simply amazing!

Flagpole
This is a large grassy area that is really beautiful and scenic. This is also the location of
where many people streak on May Day. I don't know what makes naked people so attracted to the flagpole, but I know that
I won't be one of the streakers.

Queen Anne's House
This is my dorm hall, Queen Anne's, or QA for short. The rooms are rather
spacious and even have air conditioning! It's across the street from campus so I must walk by the dangerous crosswalk
every day going to my classes. It's a rather quiet residence hall with the men on the bottom floor and the women on
top. Hopefully there won't be many drunk people around this residence hall!
The following are my own pictures that I've taken and many don't need explanation.
The beauty of the school is spectacular.

The Crosswalk
This is the crosswalk that I have to cross like eighty times a day. That's right traffic, I have
the right to make you stop, because its a signal crosswalk. Take that! I'm gonna go and press that button right
now and make all of MD Route 213 stop!

Finally RAIN!
It took the atmosphere nearly five weeks to produce some rain here. Thanks a lot to Hurricane
Ophelia, because if she hadn't come, we would still have no rain and more brown grass!
